The world we live in, even where we have made a mess of it, is full of incredible sights. Art should make us pause in our rush to wherever we are supposed to be. Art should make us remember to be alive right here, right now. Art should help us see the world we live in.

I'm fascinated by how hard people must work to make things that look like they were made by something other than a human. It takes a mollusk to make a nautilus shell. Humans use computers to create fractal images; wind does it with some sand. An agate, a sunset, a butterfly wing: our imperfect copies, whether of manmade stone or canvas and paint, require great effort on our part.

So my glass is about color and light, texture and pattern. And if I really get it right, an explorer from some other world would wonder, when he looked at my glass, what creature had left his shell behind.

The fused glass that I make falls into two general categories: functional accessories and straight up art masquerading as plates and bowls. Most of my functional pieces have an architectural bent, such as switch plate covers, nightlights, and picture frames. The art glass pieces are essentially abstract paintings. Over the years, these iridized glass plates and bowls have climbed off the table, sprouted hangers on the back, and taken a place on the wall beside their canvas and paint brethren. The wall hangings come in a variety of sizes and shapes. I still make a line of smaller plates and diamond-shaped bowls that remain more true to their roots.
